Parenting brings its own set of challenges, and one of the most important is keeping your children healthy - especially when it comes to their teeth. Did you know that tooth decay is the single most common chronic childhood disease? Over 50% of 5-9 year olds have at least one cavity or filling, and the incidence rises to an alarming 78% among 17-year-olds. In fact, more than 51 million school hours are lost each year due to dental related illnesses.

Shielding Teeth from Decay with Dental Sealants

As part of our comprehensive preventive care program, the office of Gould Dentistry highly recommends the application of dental sealants. These thin, protective coatings are painted onto newly erupted permanent back teeth and act as a shield against tooth decay. The effectiveness of dental sealants has been well documented by the American Dental Association. In fact, they have been shown to reduce the risk of cavities in children by about 80%. Furthermore, children who don't receive dental sealants are almost three times more likely to develop cavities compared to those who do.

Although dental sealants are quite durable and can last for several years, we will evaluate them at regular dental check-up visits. If needed, we will reapply the sealants to ensure ongoing protection against tooth decay.
